Lavon L. Timken of Cimarron Kansas passed away peacefully Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. She was 84.
Lavon was born Lavon Fauley in Cimarron Kansas August 27, 1929 to Edna I. Farr Fauley and Blucher R. Fauley. She had one sister, Dorothy L. Fauley Nelson, also of Cimarron. She attended elementary school in Ingalls Kansas and junior high and high school in Cimarron, graduating in 1947, and then attended Emporia State Teachers College majoring in music education.
Lavon married Robert E. Belt on August 25, 1950, and lived in Virginia and California while he served in the Marines. They returned to Cimarron where Robert died October 26, 1956. They had two daughters, Rhonda and Becky. Lavon married Roy P. Timken August 16, 1959 in Cimarron where they shared their lives together raising four daughters, Rhonda, Becky, Cindy and Gay Lynn.
Lavon was very active in the United Methodist Church in Cimarron. She began directing the adult choir in 1966, and retired after 32 years of musical service. Lavon also directed the childrens' choirs and played in the hand bell choir through the years. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women and was a member of the ladies auxiliary for Roberts-Rohrbaugh, V.F.W.
The wife of a farmer and mother to four girls, Lavon's life was busy and full. From moving pipe and farm implements and preparing meals for harvest to watching her girls and their friends in school-related events, Lavon didn't have much time to relax. And when grandchildren came along, Lavon was also involved in their life events as much as possible. Her family was her life.
Lavon is survived by her four daughters: Rhonda K. Alexander and husband Gary of Cimarron; Rebecca A. Miller and husband Don of Alamosa Colorado; Cynthia L. Timken of Oakley Kansas; and Gay Lynn Timken of Corvallis Oregon, and Marla Voth, who was like a daughter and husband Dale. She is survived by ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Lavon was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, and two husbands – Robert E. Belt and Roy P. Timken.
Services are to be held Wednesday June 4, 2014 at 10:30am at the Cimarron United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Keating presiding. Burial will follow at the Cimarron Cemetery in Cimarron. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron on Tuesday June 3, 2014 from Noon to 8:00pm.
