Spearville - Lawrence V. Nietling, 88, passed away on May 1, 2024 at Southwind Senior Living Facility in Spearville.  He was born on February 13, 1936 in Spearville, the son of Joseph and Dorothy (Schaffer) Nietling.

Lawrence was a lifetime resident of Spearville, graduating from Spearville High School.  On May 6, 1957, he was united in marriage to Margie Eining.  The couple made their home in Spearville where they raised their family. He owned and operated a dry cleaners store in Spearville.  Lawrence later went to work at Western Construction in Dodge City during the winter and spent his summers farming, working cattle, and cleaning seed wheat.

He is survived by his five children, Debbie and Larry Schmidt of Spearville, Kurt and Nancy (Huslig) Nietling of Wichita, Dennis and Judy (Dickson) Nietling of Spearville, Karla and Rick Hines of Hays, and Denice and Dan Stecklein of Dodge City; ten grandchildren; and 22 grandchildren.  Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margie; three brothers, James, Eldon, and Lloyd Nietling; and one grandchild.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Spearville on Monday, May 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Ben Green presiding.  Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Spearville.  Visitation will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a rosary following at 7:00PM.  Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie or Southwind of Spearville in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
