Obituary

Leland K. Kennedy, 82, died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at Kansas Soldiers Home in Ft. Dodge. He was born on February 2, 1927 in Dodge City, the son of Bert L. and Inez F. (Carter) Kennedy.

Mr. Kennedy was a lifetime resident of Dodge City. Lee graduated from Dodge City High School and attended Dodge City Community College. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. On September 2, 1951, he married Donna Marler in Dodge City. She preceded him in death on March 30, 1994. He then married Carol Huffman on July 7, 2001 in Dodge City. She survives. Lee worked for the United States Post Office for 32 years where he was superintendent of postal operations until his retirement. He also served as manager of the Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W. for nine years

He was a member of First Christian Church of Dodge City, lifetime member of Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W., American Legion, and Masonic Lodge all of Dodge City, Knights Templar and the Midian Shrine.

Lee is survived by his wife Carol Kennedy of Dodge City; one son, Terry L. Kennedy of Colfax, La.; one daughter, Sheryl L. Sieve of Bonne Terre, Mo.; two step sons, Mike Huffman and Dale Huffman; one grandson, Curtis Sieve of Columbia, Mo.; one granddaughter, Shana Sieve of Columbia, S.C.; and one nephew, David Kennedy and two nieces, Debbie Warren and Karen Larson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna, and one brother Clifford.

Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with military rites by Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W. There will be no public visitation as cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register book at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, January 22, 2010 from noon to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
