Offerle - Lemro Freddie "Fred" Felkins, 87, passed away March 12, 2024 in Wichita, Kansas, from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Edwards County. Fred was born on August 14, 1936 to Lemro and Lenora (VanDeusen) Felkins in Vesta Township , Clark County, Kansas on his family's farm. He attended school in Ashland, Kansas where he resided until 1955 then served in the US Army until 1958. He was stationed in Saumur, France where he met Paulette Fatet. Fred was baptized as an adult and attended the First Baptist Church in Dodge City. He served many years in law enforcement including serving as a Lieutenant of the Dodge City Police Department and Chief of Police in Marceline, Missouri and Spearville, Kansas. Fred was an exceptional carpenter which included constructing numerous homes and the community would know to "call Fred" if any home needed repair as he took so much pride in his work and could fix anything. In the 60's Fred enjoyed the fast paced race car world where he competed and won many races over several years at the McCarty Speedway. Those closest to him knew he could rarely be beaten on any pool table. Fred continued to enjoy his life after retirement by fishing, tinkering in the garage, feeding the deer and becoming quite the baker with his delicious peach cobbler. You would never exit his home without being offered something to eat.
Fred is survived by his first wife Paulette, with whom he had three children. Cindy Fleming- Rabe, Thierry Felkins and Sonia Hays. Fred was preceded in death by his former wife Sandra (Davis) Felkins, who passed away December 3, 2001. Sandra brought into their life together her children, Jimmy Burns, Troy (Leslie) Davis, and the late Ronnie Burns. Fred spent the next 17 years with companion Eula "Fluff" Sulzer, who preceded him in death in May 14, 2020. Others proceeding him in death were his parents, brother Jessie Lee Felkins, son-in-law Tim Rabe and granddaughter Bobbi Hays.
