Obituary

Montezuma - Leonard Leslie Koehn, 75, passed away February 5, 2021 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita after a long battle with muscular dystrophy. He was born on February 23, 1945 in Montezuma, the son of Edward B. and Josephine E. (Dutton) Koehn.

Leonard was a lifetime resident of Montezuma. He was a graduate of the Montezuma High School class of 1963. After graduation, he went to work for the Montezuma Cooperative. On January 21, 1973, he was united in marriage to Patricia Speakman in Dodge City. They made their home on the farm, northwest of Montezuma. Leonard and Pat raised three sons together. Leonard also farmed with his brother, Clayton. He retired from farming in 2003.

Leonard enjoyed watching his sons play sports. They often enjoyed hunting and fishing together. Leonard was a Child of God. He spent a great deal of time studying the Bible and participated in several Bible studies. Other favorite pastimes were playing Mexican train dominoes and keeping up with politics.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Pat of Montezuma; three sons, Craig M. Koehn and wife Angie of Montezuma, Lance Koehn and wife Julie of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Kevin Koehn and wife Audrey of Littleton, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Ashton, Anna, A.J., Weston, Scarlet, Amelia, and Carissa; two brothers, Gilbert Koehn of Hesston and Milton Koehn and wife Sue of Montezuma; a sister, Maxine Grenard and husband Max of La Junta, Colorado; one brother-in-law, Roger Silva of Pueblo, Colorado; and three sisters-in-law, Edith Ensz, Darlene Wedel, and Janet L. Koehn all of Montezuma. He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Bernard, Myron, Wilton, and Clayton Koehn; two sisters, Veneta Silva and Alfreda Koehn; and two sisters-in-law, Kay Koehn and Irene Koehn.

Funeral service will be held at Morningside Community Church, Montezuma on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery in Montezuma. Memorials are suggested to Samaritan's Purse or Andrew Farley Ministries in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel - PO Box 421 - Montezuma, Kansas.
