Dodge City - Leonard Looney, 87, former Dodge City resident, passed away at his home in Ponca City, Oklahoma, where his lived with his wife of 65 years, Annabelle Killingsworth Looney. She survives He joined our Heavenly Father on September 18, 2013. He was born on March 17, 1926 at Chelsea, Oklahoma, the son of Frank and Rosie (Boyles) Looney.
Leonard and Annabelle were married on March 17, 1948 in Dodge City. Leonard served in World War II as a rifleman and radio operator for two years. After his discharge, he had numerous jobs including construction, school bus driver, and a janitor at Ford High School. His true passion was welding. He was a loving father of six children.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Annabelle Looney of Ponca City, Oklahoma; two sons, Lee Looney and wife Barb and Randy Looney both of Kinsley; three daughters, Roseanna Poeverlein and husband Bill of Thayer, Brenda Rowley and husband Joe of Wichita, and Vicki Rowe and husband Jimmy of Ponca City; and one sister, MaryDee Aldridge of Thorton, Colorado. He is also the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Leonard is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jim Looney; two grandsons, Chris and Matt Poeverlein; three sisters, Elsie Looney, Viola Cox, and Nellie Gibbs; and six brothers, Cleburn, Robert, Virgil, Harvey, Orvil, and Curtis Looney.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 10:00 AM with presiding. Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Sunday, September 22, 2013 from noon to 6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of North Central Oklahom in care of the funeral home.
