Obituary

Montezuma -

Montezuma -Levina May (Jantzen) Schmidt was born to Edgar and Lillie (Holbert) Jantzen on March 16, 1947, at Moundridge, Kansas. She peacefully departed this life on August 22, 2022, at Bethel Home in Montezuma, Kansas reaching the age of 75 years. She had been longing to go home to her eternal rest.

In early childhood she moved with her family to Cimarron, Kansas. She grew up under her mother's positive influence helping her to overcome a handicap she received at birth. She completed her eighth-grade education in the Cimarron public school. At the age of 16 she answered God's call to repentance and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite by Minister Samuel Jantzen. She loved the Lord and always desired to be true to Him. She left a clear testimony that she is resting in His care.

She obtained a GED and completed her nurse's education receiving her license May 17, 1976. She worked at Trinity Hospital in Dodge City, served a year in Window Rock, and gave nearly 36 years of service at Bethel Home retiring at the age of 72. She touched many lives throughout her nursing career and was appreciated as a friend and a mentor. She was very interested in the lives of her nephews and nieces making each one of them feel special.

In the midst of her nursing career, she found the one she loved and was joined in marriage to Clayton Schmidt on September 14, 1980, at Cimarron, Kansas. Their home was blessed with one son, Eric. In February 2009 Dad passed away leaving Mother very lonely. She often longed to be with him. She enjoyed crocheting afghans sharing them with her family and friends. She enjoyed singing with her friends and often sang to her grandchildren. Whenever we were sad or upset, she would sing You Are My Sunshine. We all enjoyed her witty sense of humor and all her little sayings. We have good memories of the family trips to Cuchara, Colorado. She loved the time she spent with the grandchildren inviting them on a weekly basis and making meals for them. Having tea parties with them was a special delight to her.

Levina was a survivor of pancreatic cancer. She gives God the credit for her healing by answering Clayton's prayers for her. She was thankful for the extra years granted to her.

Those left to cherish fond memories are one son, Eric and wife Nancy, five grandchildren, Whitney, Paxton, Kenzie, Khloe, and Harlow; two brothers, Nelson and wife Pat Montezuma, Kansas and Kenneth and wife Margaret Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton; her father and mother; two brothers, Melvin and Elden; two sisters, Virginia and Loretta.
