Obituary

Cunningham - Lloyd D. Venard, 93, died November 6, 2025 at Hilltop Manor in Cunningham, Kansas. He was born on February 19, 1932 in Nashville, Kansas, son of Harold and Hazel (Keith) Venard. Lloyd graduated from Nashville High School in 1950.

He married Gladys (Simon) Venard on July 24, 1952 in St. Leo, Kansas, they were married for 44 years before her death and had one son, Don. Lloyd served in the United States Army from 1955-1957, stationed in Fort Lewis Washington. After the military, he worked as the Superintendant of the Water and Sewer Treatment facility in Medicine Lodge, Kansas before moving the family to Dodge City in the winter of 1968. In Dodge City, he worked as the Director of Physical Facilities for Dodge City Community College for 25 years before retiring. After retirement, he became a very dedicated volunteer for the American Red Cross Disaster Services, working many disasters across the country including the 911 Attack on the Twin Towers. In his spare time, he loved to go tinker and do woodworking projects, head to the lake to go fishing,  tend to his amazing garden - the tomato patch and sharing the fresh produce for the residents of Cunningham, and spending time with family and friends.

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Knights of Columbus, all of Dodge City.

He is survived by one son Don Venard and wife Cynthia of Dodge City; and his grandchildren Eric Venard and wife Trista of Dodge City; Jacki Venard and Dale Deneault of Concordia, Kansas; Kathy Falcon and husband Pat of Dodge City; Megan Welsh and husband Keith of Dodge City; Chris Venard of Dodge City and Cedric Venard and Courtney Thomas of Mill Creek, Washington. He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson; one sister Bonnie and husband Gary Strodtman, one sister-in-law Ann Venard, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He is now lovingly reunited with his wife Gladys Venard, parents Harold and Hazel Venard, two sisters Helen Venard, Betty Hauser, two brothers Harold Venard, John Venard, two grandsons Joshua Dewayne Venard, Jeremy Joe Venard and one great granddaughter Taylor Rayne Bonner.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday November 14, 2025 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Berniece Ludlum presiding.  Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
