Dodge City - Loretta June Cecil, 74, died January 11, 2024, at her home in Dodge City, Kansas. She was born on June 9, 1949, in Satanta, Kansas, the daughter of John and Doris (Golnick) Meyer.
Loretta was raised in Satanta before moving to Dodge City and graduating from Dodge City High School. She received an Associate's degree from Dodge City Community College then went on to attend Fort Hays State University. She married Jim Cecil on June 13, 1970. Loretta held a few occupations over the years including; Combs Auto, Sears, Coordinator for the SWKS Library System for over 20 years, and retired from the Natural Resources Conservation Service after 17 years. She was also part owner of Cecil's BBQ for 25 years.
Loretta was an animal lover. She also loved tending to her flowers and garden as well as being outdoors and working in the yard. She also enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Cecil; children, Cory Cecil (Caralea) of Minneola, Daniel Cecil (Lindsey) of Dodge City, and Brian Lies (Samantha) of Satanta; grandchildren, Trent Cecil, Parker Cecil, Lainey Cecil, Claire Cecil, Annie Cecil, and Harper Lies; and a sister, Madonna Lies. She is preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Dee Hill.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 2:00 PM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. Entombment will follow at the Scroggins Mausoleum at Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City. There will be no public visitation.
