IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Loretta Ellen
Lewis
November 8, 1948 – April 27, 2025
Loretta Ellen McDonald-Lewis, 76, a former LPN and middle school paraprofessional in Dodge City, KS, passed away peacefully at the Olathe Hospice House. She was beloved by many and those around her were charmed by her Jesus spirit and hugs.
She was born to Walter and Juanita Foster in Wichita, KS in 1948. She was the 2nd of three girls and graduated Dodge City High School in 1966. Loretta obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse degree (LPN) from Dodge City Community College in 1967. Scott D. McDonald proposed and they married in 1968 and started their careers: she as a nurse and he as a school custodian for USD 377 in Ingalls, KS. Loretta and Scott, in total, were married 41 years.
In 1971 they began their family with Jake Wade, in 1974 they welcomed Catherine Colleen, and were blessed once more with Brian Keith in 1976. They rented a house in Ingalls and settled into church activities, friends, and hobbies. Tragedy struck and both boys passed: Jake in 1977 and Brian in 1979, both due to genetic issues.
In the years that followed, Loretta took a cake decorating class and made many creations. Birthdays for family members were always a treat to see what might turn up. She loved to work with children: from working as a para with the special education kids in middle school, helping with a kids Wednesday church program, or working with Bible School at Grace Community Church. Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA), Dolly Club, and TOPS also became important to her.
To her own grandchildren, she became "Nana" and enjoyed rocking them, reading to them, and playing on the floor. As they got older she was able to share Halloween, historical places, and Jesus with them. After being a widow for several years, Loretta married again in 2019 to Robert Lewis, Jr. and they were wed until her death on April 27th , 2025.
Loretta McDonald-Lewis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Scott McDonald, and their two sons Jake and Brian McDonald. She is survived by husband Robert Lewis Jr., a daughter Catherine and husband Jeremy Little, Edgerton; grandson Aidan Little and granddaughter Lenora Little, both of Edgerton; and a special niece Deborah Vick, of South Dakota. Two sisters, Annette Costello and Carol Salm; Dodge City, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
