Lyla Fern Lamaster-Southern, 71, died March 1, 2011 at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City. She was born on April 9, 1939 at Knowles, Oklahoma the daughter of William B. and Effie Elnora (Phelps) Kite.

She was a cook at the Silver Spur, Gunsmoke Truckstop, USD 443 and several other area restaurants for over 38 years. On July 20, 1954 she married Delbert Lamaster at Knowles, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on July 25, 1988. Lyla later married Greg Southern on April 10, 1992 in Wichita. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2000.

Lyla is survived by four daughters, Roberta Wilson and husband Lonnie of Chanute, Deanna Webb and husband Daniel Scroggins of Owosso, Michigan, Rebecca Lamaster of Dodge City, and Renee Williams and husband Eddie of Dodge City; brother, Alva Kite and wife Earlene of Wichita; sister, Lenora "Nonie" Isenbart and husband Larry of Dodge City; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Elmer Lemaster of Elkhart; sister-in-law, Eileen Kite of Pueblo, Colorado; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Leroy Lamaster; daughter, Sue Ann Lamaster; brother, Melvin Kite and sister, Nellie Pearl Kite.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Burial will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday at Gate Cemetery in Gate, Oklahoma. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, March 4, 2011 from noon to 8:00 PM.
