Obituary

M. Kathleen Winter, 81, died Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Alterra Sterling House in Dodge City. She was born on September 8, 1927 in Dodge City, the daughter of Edgar Earl and Velma Lily (Barton) Moore.

Kathleen grew up in Dodge City and graduated from Dodge City High School in 1946. She then attended Dodge City Community College. On November 17, 1947, she married Ross E. Winter in Dodge City. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1995. Kathleen enjoyed traveling and being with family.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, PEO GA Chapter, Circle 2 of UMW, the Red Hats Club, Bas Bleau, Meals on Wheels and was a charter member of Stephen Ministries all of Dodge City. Mrs. Winter also served on the Methodist Youthville Board of Directors and helped with the Mexican Ministries Alliance.

Kathleen is survived by one son, Ken Winter and wife Diane of Dodge City; one brother, Ed Moore and wife Shirley of Dodge City; two sisters, Sharon Twidt and husband Ray and Linda Madison both of Phoenix, Arizona; one daughter-in-law, Sherrie Fischer and husband Mark of Dodge City; one brother-in-law, Ray Winter and wife Sue of Enid, Oklahoma; and one sister-in-law, Phyllis Madden and husband Bill of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Ross, Kathleen was also preceded in death by a son, Steven Winter in 1987.

Funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Dodge City on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Dick Robbins and Rev. Lance Carrithers presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Sunday, July 12, 2009 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
