Dodge City - Major Claude E. Reeder, 88, died January 4, 2011 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. He was born on December 22, 1922 at Eureka, Ks the son of Sylvester and Clara (Isenman) Reeder.

He grew up in Eureka, Kansas. On November 2, 1945 he married Louise Virginia Bidwell at Augusta, Kansas. She preceded him in death on April 5, 1991. After their marriage, they served for 11 years with the Salvation Army in the Missouri/Kansas Division and a total of 15 years at Dodge City. He retired in 1988. He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award and was also awarded the Black Arrow of the Salvation Army. Major Reeder enjoyed and was very talented in wood carving.

He was a member of the Salvation Army and the Kiwanis Club both of Dodge City.

He is survived by two sons, John E. Reeder, of Pensacola, Florida and Stephen A. Reeder, of Pella, Iowa; a daughter Clara Shearon, of Dodge City; a brother, Clifford Reeder of Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at the Salvation Army Citadel, 1100 Ave. E, Dodge City, on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. with Captain Joaquin Rangel presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, January 7, 2011 from Noon to 8:00 P.M. and the family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home..
