Dodge City – Malayna "Layna" Michelle Winter,49, died July 4, 2025 at St. Catherine's Hospital in Dodge City, Kansas. She was born on May 5, 1976 at Spearville, Kansas the daughter of Dirk and Margaret "Margie" (Schawe) Combest.
Following graduation from Dodge City High School, Layna worked at Landmark Bank and attended Dodge City Community College. Jeff and Layna have spent their life raising their four children and building their family business together.
She married Jeffrey Winter on October 19, 1996 at the First Christian Church in Dodge City, he survives. Malayna loved crocheting, baking, working on family genealogy and decorating and hosting parties for her family and friends. She was a very crafty and artistic lady and loved collecting almost anything. Her passion in life was to make life easier for her family and anyone else in her life no matter what she had to do to achieve that. Layna had a unique talent for remembering every person and event that left an impression on her life and in her heart.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Dodge City.
She is survived by her husband Jeffrey of the home; one son Austin Winter of Dodge City; three daughters Paige Winter, Emily Winter, Harley Winter all of the home; three sisters Shauna Hargett and husband Dan of Wichita; Shelli Heinz and husband Jacob of Offerle; Vicki Moore and husband Kris of Dodge City and one honorary sister Delinda Davis of Arkansas. She is also survived by her mother-in-law and father-in-law Mark and Sherrie Fischer of Dodge City.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dirk and Marjorie Combest and her father-in-law Steve Winter.
Funeral service will be held at First Christian Church on Monday July 14, 2025 at 10:30 AM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Sunday, July 13, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Malayna Winter Children's Education Fund in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
