IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marcie Louise
Heady
September 19, 1964 – February 1, 2025
Kalvesta - Marcie Louise (Litton) Heady was born September 19, 1964 in Quinter Kansas. She was the seventh child of Halbert Keith Litton and Margaret "Peggy" (Moss/Litton) Muehlenkamp. She lived in Hoxie for the first five years of her life, where she and siblings would play cowboys and Indians. From there, she moved to Fort Garland, Colorado, which she still calls her hometown. She loved the mountains. Her teenage years were split as she moved to Rawlins, Wyoming and then to Logan, Illinois. While living in Illinois she got pregnant with her beloved son Lancy, and made the decision to return home to Kansas with her sisters. This turned out to be the best decision of her life as in 1983, she met the man of her dreams right across the street. It was love at first sight, and less than a year later, she married Blake L Heady of Montezuma, Kansas, on August 5, 1984, in Sublette.
Marcie and Blake moved around a bit before finally settling on their beloved farm in Kalvesta. It was there that they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising "their lights and joys"—a family of twelve children. With that many little ones running around, there was never a dull moment at what became affectionately known as "The Crazy House." Over the years, more than 80 foster children found love under their roof, many of whom still call them Mom and Dad to this day. Marcie had a heart that knew no bounds. Even with having twelve children, they also acquired a few "bonus children" and would include them when asked how many kids they had. Her door was always open to anyone in need of a place to stay, a warm meal, or simply a listening ear. She cherished every moment and welcomed all who stepped through the doors of "The Crazy House!" with a warm smile and hug. As Marcie would often say after all that, "And we're still counting….!"
Marcie had an adventurous spirit and a deep love for travel. She never missed a chance to hit the road, whether camping at Scott Lake, visiting her sisters Shawn and Rhonda in Colorado, or taking summer trips with her sister Karin and their mom, Peggy, to see Lonnie in Atlanta, always cherishing time by the ocean. She found joy in simple moments, from drives with her brother Kurt to coffee with Kyle and visits to her mom in Oakley and sister Penny on the farm. Her greatest adventure was her 40th-anniversary trip with Blake, driving through Montana and simply enjoying time together. No matter where she went, family was always at the heart of her journey.
Marcie was an avid collector of unicorns, Pegasus, frogs, and "Her Gnomes." She loved having her goats, chickens, "them dang dogs," and was forever fixing up the Kalvesta farm. As she would say: "The tourists on Hwy 156 would not be taking pictures of a run-down farm."
Marcie had a love for canning, baking, and cooking, though she was happiest as the prep chef, as long as she wasn't the one standing in front of "that stove!" She spent countless hours crocheting doll clothes for the children and grandchildren and working to make sure that each one received a handmade blanket from her. Sharing her crafts with family and friends brought her great joy. She cherished simple pleasures, Madea and Swayze movie nights, morning coffee around the dining table, and long chats filled with stories about her and Blake's life together, that she would use to teach us life lessons. Late-night phone calls kept her connected, and game nights were always lively. Whether it was dice, Clue, Monopoly, Pitch, Spades, Uno, or Rummy 5,000, Marcie played to win, often spotting a rummy before the card was even laid down. And sometimes, just sometimes, the game had to go on a little longer, just to make sure she won.
Marcie had the biggest heart, loving, caring, and fiercely loyal. She was often called the family's peacekeeper or bulldog, always striving to keep everyone together. She greeted everyone with a warm smile and an even warmer hug, making all who knew her feel loved and welcome. A devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, her laughter and kindness will be deeply missed by all.
This is not goodbye but a "see you later", goodnight, big hugs and kisses, snug as a bug in a rug. On February 1st, 2025, Marcie suffered a heart attack on the way to the hospital. Her light dimmed in the back of the ambulance at 9:40 a.m., but the love she gave will shine on forever.
