Obituary

Dodge City - Margaret Angline Maupin, 86, died September 10, 2023 in Dodge City. She was the daughter of James Olian Watson and Elgie Lee Carpenter.  She was born on August 8, 1937 in Pensacola, Florida.

Her father was a sailor in the Navy and traveled all over the United States until his retirement. On September 3, 1953 she married Cecil L. Maupin, Jr. in Folkston, Georgia. He preceded her in death on February 24, 2007.

She was a member of the Dodge City Church of the Nazarene and always looked forward to baking Pastor Burns a chocolate cake.

She loved wind chimes, turtles as well as her westerns, Jeff Gordon and her pool. She made blankets for many people including her grandchildren. She also loved genealogy until her sight started to diminish. She adored her dogs but mostly her family. Her granddaughter Jessica got the privilege of taking care of her. They all loved her very much. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She also took in many nieces and nephews over the years.

She is survived by her children, Diane Maupin, Jay Maupin (Vonda Finley), and Chris Maupin, all of Dodge City; grandchildren, CJ Maupin(Stepp) (Nic Welch) of Spearville, Stephanie Baudin (Brandon) of Houston, TX, Kevin Tabor (Brandi) of Dodge City, Joey Maupin (Chasity) of Dodge City, Jessica Maupin of Dodge City, and Megan Klein (Kaden) of Wichita and many more that she claimed; great grandchildren, Maddox Elizabeth, Ethan and Boone; siblings, Joey Watson, Susan Moinette, and Andy Watson all of Jacksonville, FL; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Wynn; many nieces and nephews and extended family; dear friends, Marlene Maupin, Carolyn Legg, and Christy Cummins; and her caregiver, Martha Romero. She was preceded in death by her father, James Olian Watson and mother, Evelyn Dorothy Watson; birth mother, Elgie Lee Carpenter; husband, Cecil L. Maupin, Jr.; a son, Butch Maupin; and siblings, J.W. and Donald Wynn (Margaret), Paul Watson, and Norma Rodifer; a brother in law, Maurice Moinette; two nephews, Harley Wynn and Maury Moinette; and one niece, Rita Wynn.

Funeral service will be held at Dodge City Church of the Nazarene on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 10:00 AM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding.  Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City. There will be no public visitation.  Memorials are suggested to the Ford County Humane Society or to the Courtney TyLynn Foundation in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
