Margaret M. Matthews Lampe, 89, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2010 in Lawrence. She was born on January 9, 1921 in Limon, Colorado the daughter of Orley F. and Letha (Hinson) Whitaker.

Margaret grew up on a farm south of Minneola. She lived on a farm near Windthorst for thirty years before moving to Dodge City after her husband died. She worked at the Silver Spur for eleven years and provided childcare from her home for seventeen years.

She is survived by four sons, John Matthews and wife Karen of Lawrence, Frank Lampe and wife Marsha of Kingston, OK, Mark Lampe and wife Cindy of Offerle, Joseph Lampe of Fowler; two daughters, Mary Lois Sullivan of Eskridge and Christy Rothchild and husband Brent of Abilene; two daughters-in-law, Margareta Matthews of Albuquerque, NM and Hannelora Matthews of San Antonio, TX; sixteen grandchildren and thirty five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Earl E. Matthews, and Henry F. Lampe; four brothers, Fred, Maynard, Orley, and Wrenzel Whitaker; three sons, Doral Matthews, Cleve Matthews, and Linus Lampe; and one granddaughter, Sheila Lampe.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 10:30 AM. with Rev. Lance Carrithers presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Swaim Funeral Home from 12:00 - 8:00 PM.
