Dodge City - Margie L. Combest, 72, died January 6, 2024 at Via Christi in Wichita. She was born on October 20, 1951 at Spearville, the daughter of Corwin and Margaret (Kramer) Schawe.
Margie was born and raised in Spearville and was a graduate of Spearville High School. After graduating she went to work for Cimarron Insurance Company for many years until the agency closed. She then worked at the Dodge City Medical Center as the Work Comp filing agent until her retirement in 2016. On January 6, 1979 she married Dirk Combest at Spearville. Margie enjoyed sewing and making her daughters the clothes for all the Barbie Dolls. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Margie is survived by her four daughters, Shauna Hargett and husband Dan of Clearwater, Shelli Heinz and husband Jacob of Offerle, Layna Winter and husband Jeff of Dodge City, and Vicki Moore and husband Kris of Dodge City; honorary daughter, Delinda Davis of Bentonville, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren, Chelsey, Kyler, Caleb, Kindyl, Austin, Paige, Emily, Harley, Zak, Ace, Hope, and Nathan; nine great grandchildren, Gracie, Frankie, Ellary, Stetson, Iggy, Drew, Harlow, Laredo, and little Nate; two sisters, Sharla Thill of Ellinwood and Connie Kallaus of Burlington, Colorado; and brother, Denny Schawe of Spearville. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dirk Combest, a grandson, Aaron Hargett; and two brothers, Mike and Ben Schawe.
Vigil service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Spearville. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday, January 12, 2024 from Noon to 7:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Meaningful Life Foundation or Friendship Fields Friends University in care of the funeral home.
