Marguerite (McGee) Zielke, 89, died Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Protection Valley Manor in Protection. She was born on June 4, 1921 on a farm 15 miles southwest of Dodge City, the daughter of Jacob Ernest and Ethel Estella (Wright) McGee.
Mrs. Zielke was a lifetime resident of Dodge City. She graduated from Dodge City High School in 1939. On September 26, 1941, she married Harry E. Zielke in Dodge City. He preceded her in death on October 17, 2004. Mrs. Zielke had worked at the south Dillons in Dodge City.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, United Methodist Women Circle One, B.H. & B.H. Extension Unit, Salvation Army Auxillary, A.A.R.P., and served as a 4-H leader.
She is survived by three sons, Harry E. Zielke, Jr. and wife Amy of Larned, Raymond E. Zielke and wife Sue of Larned, Kenneth W. Zielke of Dodge City; one daughter, Myrna S. Koehn and husband Mike of Protection, one sister, Madelene Leonard of Hutchinson; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Stanley L. Zielke, Evan D. Zielke, and Hershel Zielke; three sisters, Doris Jean Smith, Josephine Smyres, and Martha Voress; one brother, Fred McGee; and two great grandchildren, Sierra Zielke and Keegan Zielke.
Funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Dodge City on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Lance Carrithers presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, November 11, 2010 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Memorials can be made to Protection Valley Manor, First United Methodist Church, or Salvation Army in care of the funeral home.
