Obituary

Dodge City - Marian O. Hurtig, 90, of Cheyenne, WY died June 8, 2014 in Cheyenne.

She was born September 10, 1923 the 1st of 2 children in Chillicothe, Missouri to Reuben and Laura Ober. She married Louis A. Hurtig September 15, 1946 in Concordia, KS. They raised their family in Dodge City, KS and were active members of Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish and School. Marian was a member of the Altar Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Mayflower Society. She was currently a member of Cheyenne's St. Mary's Cathedral.

She attended grade through high school in Minneapolis, KS. She graduated Kansas State College in 1945 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and Art. She taught in Hays, KS and later taught art and nutrition in Dodge City, KS.

She is survived by her children, Louis Anthony "Tony" (Kim) Hurtig, Jr. of Wichita, KS, Mary Louise (Walynn) Smith of Cheyenne; grandchildren, Bryan, Shane and Lara Anne Smith of Colorado, Heidi Hurtig of Kansas City, MO and Andy Hurtig of Manhattan, KS.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis A. Hurtig; infant son, Lawrence Anthony Hurtig; brother, Robert Nelson Ober.

A Vigil for the Deceased will be 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, in the Schrader Chapel in Cheyenne. A second Rosary will be held Thursday, June 12, 7:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of our Lady of Guadalupe and a funeral Mass Friday, June 13, 2:00 p.m. preceded by dinner at noon in the Cathedral of our Lady of Guadalupe. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.

The family suggests memorials to the Daughters of the American Revolution, or the fund to elevate Father Emil Kapaun to Sainthood,
