Dodge City - Mariano Vargas- Vasquez, 62, died April 2, 2013 at St. Catherine's Hospital, Garden City. He was born on July 26, 1950 at Coahuayutla, Guerrero, Mexico, the son of Rodrigo Vargas Solano and Candelaria Vasquez Gasca.
He married Alicia Gonzalez on December 16, 1972 in Los Angeles, California, she survives. He loved spending time with his family, and also enjoyed fishing, landscaping and target practice shooting.
He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe of Dodge City.
He is survived by his wife Alicia of the home; one son Samuel Vargas and wife Erindida of Wichita and one daughter Adriana Vargas of Dodge City. He is also survived by three granddaughters and four brothers and six sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Funeral mass will be held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Ted Skalsky presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 12:00 to 5:00 PM. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Memorials are suggested to Mariano Vargas-Vasquez Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
