El Dorado - Marilyn Frances (Solbach) Ayers, 82, died November 9, 2018 at Lakepoint Nursing Home, El Dorado. She was born on September 13, 1936 in Washington County, the daughter of John and Martha (L'Ecuyer) Solbach.
Marilyn attended grade school in Washington County, District 71, and high school at Clifton Rural. She worked as a nurse aide at St. Joseph Hospital in Concordia. On August 11, 1954 Marilyn married Jack D. Ayers, together they raised 6 children. Marilyn sewed all of her children's clothing as well as sewed for other individuals and she had a day care in her home. Marilyn attended St. Mary's College as a Psychology major from 1985-1989.
She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the Altar Society, Birthright, the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. Marilyn also served as a 4H leader.
Marilyn is survived by four sons, Richard Ayers and wife Deb of Dodge City, Roger Ayers and wife Debbie of Rio Rancho, NM, Tom Ayers and wife Bea of Wichita, and Jeff Ayers of Dodge City; two daughters, Beth Riege and husband Scott of Omaha, NE, and Diane Flamm and husband Bret of El Dorado; 20 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren; two sisters; and 3 brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jack; and eight siblings.
Funeral mass will be held at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM with a vigil service at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe at 7:00 PM.
