IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marjorie Elaine
Nichols
June 16, 1931 – March 31, 2024
Marjorie Elaine Nichols was born on June 16, 1931, to Harvey and Ruth (Koehn) Nichols at Hickok, Kansas. She peacefully passed away March 31, 2024, at Bethel Home in Montezuma, Kansas.
Marjorie's young years were spent in Kansas, with a short time in DeRidder, Louisiana. She loved going to school and enjoyed her friends. She talked about happy times with her three siblings, singing a lot, and sometimes arguing, too. Marjorie accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on December 15, 1943, by Min. E.W. Frank. Her last words were "I love Jesus.".
In 1960, Marjorie enrolled in Nurse's Training in Dodge City, Kansas. She graduated in 1963 with an LPN degree. After school, she worked at Bethel Home for a number of years. She then moved to Oklahoma and worked as a nurse at Okeene Hospital.
Marjorie loved her family and had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews. She would sew dresses for the little girls and their dolls. She loved good times with her family, cooking good food, and talking and laughing together. The snack we all remember most was Root Beer Floats, or as she called them, "Black Cows".
When Marjorie's parents' health was declining, she faithfully took care of them. After Grandpa was gone, Marjorie and her mother moved to Halstead to be close to the doctor. She made good friends there, especially the Kenneth Smith family. In January 2008, Marjorie moved into Bethel Home, remaining there until her passing. She was well-loved at Bethel Home, becoming a favorite of the nurses. She always noticed little children and loved to hold them and show them love. She would invite them to her room, often giving them treats. She loved to collect dolls and received many of them as gifts. Her collection of dolls was well-known.
The family is grateful to the staff at Bethel Home for all the love and care for so many years.
Her survivors include two sisters-in-law Carrie Nichols and Barbara Nichols, both of Montezuma, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Leon and Marvin; her sister, Vada; and two brothers-in-law, Leroy Koehn and Elias Becker.
Funeral service will be held at Montezuma Mennonite Church on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Montezuma Mennonite Cemetery.
