Obituary

Dodge City - Martha Lou McQueen, 69, went to heaven on July 30, 2021.  She was born on August 5, 1951 at Dayton, Ohio the daughter of Claude and Bessie (Macy) McMinn.

As a daughter of a minister, Martha spent much of her childhood moving with her family. The family eventually landed in Bern, Kansas, where she graduated from high school. Also while living in Bern, Martha met Jay McQueen and they were married on January 9, 1971. The two settled in Dodge City in 1981. Martha stayed home and took care of her children until they were attending school; she then began working for the hospital. She later worked for Wal-Mart for 20 years.

Martha loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She also enjoyed sewing and reading. Martha had a big heart, helping anyone in need as well as volunteering her time to help others. She also spent many years helping with Girl Scouts, serving as a Troop Leader.

She was a member of the Wilroads Garden Christian Church.

Martha is survived by her husband, Jay McQueen of Dodge City; daughter, Tonia Rumbaugh and husband Tony of Dodge City; son, Timothy McQueen and wife Sharon of Ford; six grandchildren, Trina Hancock and husband J.P., Tyler Rumbaugh and wife Claire, Sarah McQueen, Asher Rumbaugh, Trace McQueen, and Jaydenn McQueen; one great granddaughter, Naomi Hancock; sisters, Barbara Olivas and husband Jose of Ulysses, and Karen Benfer and husband Kevin of Longford. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Bessie McMinn; and son, Travis McQueen.

Funeral service will be held at Wilroads Garden Christian Church on Wednesday, August  4, 2021 at 10:00 AM with Scott Tilley presiding.  Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Tuesday, August  3, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to the Travis McQueen Memorial in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
