Obituary

Martha E. Tasset, 96, died May 20, 2010 at Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. She was born March 13, 1914 in Spearville, the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Droste) Hornung. Martha married Alfred E. Tasset on August 4, 1936 at Windthorst. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1996.

She grew up in the Windthorst community, graduating from Windthorst High School in 1932. She attended Sacred Heart College in Wichita. After raising her family, she graduated from DCCC School of Cosmetology.

After farming with her husband in the Windthorst area for 35 years, they moved to Pratt, where they owned and operated a motel for six years. They then retired to Wright and later to Dodge City. She was an independent resident of Manor of the Plains for the past 12 years.

She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe of Dodge City, the Altar Society and the Moose Lodge. She also served on the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.

Survivors include: five sons, Leonard and Liana of DeSoto, Texas; Kenneth, Springfield, Illinois; Duane and Mary Jo, Dodge City; Daniel, Leawood, Kansas; Richard and Polly, Broomfield, Colorado; five daughters, Joanna and Don Baker, Dodge City; Doris and Neil Salmans, Wright; Kathleen and Richard Claussen, Duncan, Oklahoma; Judith and Galen Conrardy, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Denise and Sam Mayhew, Leawood, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Patricia Tasset, Andover; one brother, William Hornung, Stratton, Colorado; 48 grandchildren; 89 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceeded in death by a son, Lowell; daughter-in-law, Darlene; sister, Justina Tasset, brothers, Michael, Bernard, Christian, Anthony, and Jimmy Hornung; 1 grandchild; 10 great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, followed by parish vigil service at 7:00 p.m., both at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, with Rev. Ted Skalsky, Rev. Robert Schremmer and Abbot Michael Liebl officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, Wright. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City.
