Obituary

Dodge City - Marvalena Kinder, 85, died February 12, 2013 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. She was born on April 10, 1927 at Magnolia, Missouri the daughter of Joseph and Nellie Blanche (Jett) Raker.

Marvalena grew up in Magnolia, Missouri and graduated from Magnolia High School. She then attended Central Missouri State University where she graduated with a clerical business degree. On August 7, 1949 she married Otto Lee Kinder in Warrensburg, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 10, 1997. They came to Dodge City in the early 1950's and have lived here since. She worked in food service for U.S.D. 443 for many years and then for Meals On Wheels for 23 years. Marvalena enjoyed helping people and also collecting dolls.

She was an active member of Grace Communtiy Church of Dodge City and she had taught Sunday School for the first and second grades for forty years. She was also a member of Christian Womens Club and a volunteer R.S.V.P..

She is survived by two sons, David L. Kinder of Garden City and Richard A. Kinder and wife Cheryl of Orange, Texas; a daughter Carol Yvonne Buchheister and husband Jim of Lawrence; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Laura Barr of Odessa, Missouri and Jewell Monson of Raymore Missouri.

Marvelena was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, Joe Raker.

Funeral service will be held at Grace Communtiy Church on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Kirk Larson presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City on Thursday, February 14, 2013 from Noon to 8:00 P.M.. Memorials are suggested to Meals On Wheels, American Cancer Society or to Grace Community Church all in care of the funeral home.
