MARVIN BOYD COLLINS SR.
Wichita - Marvin Boyd Collins Sr, 93, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Via Christi St. Francis Campus, Wichita. He was born on February 28, 1921 to Alvin and Faye Collins on a farm in Weskan, Kansas.
He graduated from Weskan High School in 1939. He then attended Dodge City Business College where he met LaVerna Erdsiek. They were married October 8, 1940 at Alexander, Kansas.
Marvin farmed with his father at Weskan until 1947 when they moved to Wichita. In 1950, he bought a farm south of Dodge City to farm. Marvin was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Dodge City, and had served on the Farm Bureau and Extension Boards of Ford County. He was a past club leader of the Richland Boosters 4-H Club, and served on the Ford County Fair Board, and Southwest Fair Board. He was in all masonic bodies, Shrine Club and Shriners Clowns Club. He was currently a member of Linwood Senior Center, Wichita.
In 1962, they moved into Dodge City where they resided until after Verna's death. He then moved to Wichita where he sold real estate and chartered tours. Marvin loved to travel, and had been in all 50 states and many foreign countries.
Survivors include one son Marvin Boyd Collins Jr. and wife June, Bossier City, Louisiana; three daughters, Jewell Perkins, Dodge City, Marvel Salem and husband Jim, Cimarron, Penny Smith, Carthage, Tennessee; son in law Glenn Gary, Joplin, Missouri; sister, Marie Rozen, Clear Lake, Iowa; companion, Pat Ritchie, sixteen grandchildren, fourty seven great grandchildren, and seventeen great great grandchildren. Marvin was preceded in death by his wife Verna, his parents, sister Pearl Crisp, daughter Bonnie Gary, son in law Ronald Perkins, and two grandsons, Randy Perkins, and Chris Collins.
Graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City, on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. with Dr. Donald Crisp presiding. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 12:00 PM til 8:00 PM.
