Obituary

DODGE CITY - Mary Ellen Buddy, 84, died January 31, 2012 at Sunrise Creek Assisted Living Center, Montrose, Colorado. She was born on May 24, 1927 at St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of William and Agnes James (Murphy) O'Herin.

She grew up in Webster Groves, Missouri and graduated from Nerinx Hall High School. She then attended Maryville College. On January 24, 1948 she married Edward O'Connell Buddy at Webster Groves, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 8, 1989. They lived in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Amarillo, Texas until coming to Dodge City in 1963.

She loved to travel and play golf. Throughout her life, she has always relished time with family, her husband and children, her extended family and, as it grew, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary Ellen could often be found in the middle of lively conversation, expressing her opinion and demonstrating her sense of humor, two of the qualities for which she will be best remembered.

She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe parish in Dodge City prior to her move to Montrose, and had been an active member of St. Monica Circle. Through the years, Mary Ellen had also served on the Sacred Heart School Board and local Cancer Society Board, among other community activities.

Mrs. Buddy is survived by two sons, Edward P. Buddy of Bethany, Oklahoma and Charles F. Buddy of Dodge City, Kansas; a daughter, Ellen Buddy Fetterolf of Ridgway, Colorado; a brother, William O'Herin of Clinton, Missouri; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her older brother Edward F. O'Herin. She was also preceded in death by her second husband Joe Badaracco.

Vigil service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Monday, February 6th at 700 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dodge City on Tuesday, February 7th at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Ted Skalsky celebrating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be from noon to 8:00 P.M. at Swaim Funeral Home on Monday.
