Obituary

Lindsborg - Mary Burnett, 87, died May 4, 2014 at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, Kansas. She was born on March 8, 1927 on a farm near Minneola, the daughter of Elmer and Alice Bradley.

She had two sisters, Clara and Gloria, and a brother, Harold, all now deceased. In 1946, she married a handsome young navy pilot, Glenn Burnett. They were married 67 years and lived most of their lives in Dodge City.

She had a passion for studying and teaching the Bible and leading the senior girls class at the First Baptist Church in Dodge City, and later the senior adult class at the First United Methodist Church also in Dodge City. She helped start Christian Women's Club of Dodge City and served as the area representative for many years.

Because her husband Glenn, was an avid golfer, she learned early in their married life that the only way to keep up with him, was to learn to play herself. She did just that, and golf brought them many years of fun and friends in both Dodge City and the Scottsdale, Arizona area.

Mary was able to fulfill her life's ambition of being a dress designer by designing and sewing for her children and grandchildren. She fashioned all of her daughter's wedding gowns, as well as those as those of her sisters and niece.

She is survived by three daughters, Lynn Owen and husband Sam of Nairobi, Kenya, Dana Keck of Salina, Jan McKinnon and husband David of Jones, Oklahoma. She had seven deeply loved grandchildren, Kari Keck of Salina, Shepard Owen and wife Maria of Nairobi, Kenya, Amy Owen of Geneva, Switzerland, Casey Keck and wife Jessica of Belton, Missouri, Justin Abbott and wife Chelsea of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Dane Abbott and wife Lisa of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Andrew Owen and wife Ciara of Grants Pass, Oregon. They each delighted in spending time with their sweet, little grandma. She was able to know and cherish each of her three great grandsons.

A memorial service will take place in Dodge City at a later date. Condolences may be sent to Glenn Burnett, 321 N. Chestnut, Lindsborg, Kansas 67456.
