Obituary

Dodge City – Mary Eloise "Ellie" Lopez, 64, died January 6, 2024 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita, Kansas.  She was born on April 9, 1959 at Palmer Lake, Colorado the daughter of Aurelio and Guadalupe (Carmona) Lopez.

It was no secret that Ellie's greatest treasure was her family. She would do anything for her children. She loved them with all she had and enjoyed spending time with them. They enjoyed making memories traveling, going to concerts, cooking and trying new restaurants. Her other hobbies included board games, cards, crosswords, music of all sorts, bingo, lottery scratch-offs and cheering on the Chiefs.

It wasn't uncommon to find Ellie in the kitchen. Her passion was cooking for anyone and everyone, and passing down family recipes. She would make sure no one ever went hungry. In her true caring nature, she even befriended her neighbors and cherished the times she could spoil them with goodies. This didn't stop with neighbors. Her gracious deeds spread far and wide in the community and throughout her career at Cargill. She made friends that lasted a lifetime and she could tell you their shift, department, position and family members at the drop of

a hat. She took great pride in knowing her people at Cargill. The same was reciprocated when any one person saw her in the office, halls or cafeteria. She could brighten anyone's day just by being in her presence. She never met a stranger and if she did, she would feed them and send them home with leftovers.

Besides being in the kitchen, Ellie rarely missed mass. All the way back to the "Avenue J days," walking to and attending mass with her siblings at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Her faith was strong. So strong, it got her through the toughest of times when her health faltered. She always remained positive and cheered on her dialysis buddies when they became transplant eligible. Her faith also led her to her bible study friends, who became family. Ellie was quite the social butterfly. It's been said that she had more friends than all of her children's friends combined.

She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe of Dodge City.

She is survived by her daughter Barbara Lubbe and husband Johann of Dodge City; two sons Daniel Archuleta of Dodge City; Michael Archuleta and wife Rosa Adame of Enid, Oklahoma. She is also survived by three brothers Greg Lopez of Dodge City: Robert Lopez of Dodge City: Richard Lopez of Vista, California and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one niece Holly Archuleta.
