She was raised in Milton, Kansas, and graduated from Milton Hight School. Mary attended Emporia State Teachers College and then went to work for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita. On November 29, 1945 she married Gerald R. "Fergie" Fergerson at Wichita. In 1947, they moved to Dodge City where they opened and operated Fergerson's Furniture and Appliance.

Mary was a charter member of Grace Community Church of Dodge City and was a Sunday School teacher for over 40 years.

She is survived by two sons, Steve Fergerson and wife Linda of Dodge City, George Fergerson and wife Gail of Dodge City; five grandsons, Dustin, Scott, Sam, Stephen, and Josh; and one granddaughter, McKenzie. She was preceded in death by by her husband, Gerald; three brothers, Gerry, Gail, and Stan Hamilton; and one sister Dorothy Knudson.

Funeral service will be held at Grace Community Church, Dodge City, on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Kirk Larson presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 from noon to 8:00 PM.
