Mary D. (Evans) Lupton, 75, died Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Medical Center of the Rockies at Loveland, Colorado. She was born on July 10, 1934 at Gove, the daughter of Jim and Edith (Roberts) Evans.
Mary was raised in Gove where she attended Missouri Flats one room elementary school. She graduated from Dighton High School. Mary then attended Fort Hays State University, graduating with a degree in Speech Pathology. On June 8, 1958, she married Dana Lupton in Dighton. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1989. They lived and farmed in Montezuma. Mrs. Lupton was a speech pathologist, then taught third grade before moving to fifth grade at Montezuma Elementary where she taught for over 30 years until her retirement in 2005. She truly loved teaching and touched the lives of many students during her time as an educator.
She was a member of Montezuma United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Bluelight E.H.U. both of Montezuma.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Jana Richards and husband John of Overland Park; two sisters, Lois Troutman of Hobbs, New Mexico and Kay Ellen McKain of Delphos; one brother, Larry Evans of Gove; two granddaughters Madison Von Richards and Dayna Evan Richards both of Overland Park. She was preceded in death by her husband Dana, a daughter, Lorie, and an infant daughter.
Funeral service will be held at Montezuma United Methodist Church on Monday, September 7, 2009 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Jerry Odle presiding. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, on Sunday, September 6, 2009 from noon to 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas for the Mary Lupton Scholarship in care of the funeral home.
