IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Ann
Nightingale
December 7, 1935 – November 6, 2020
Montezuma - Mary Ann Koehn was born to David and Matilda (Becker) Koehn in McPherson County on December 7, 1935. She was the youngest daughter in a family of six sons and three daughters. Following a short illness with Covid-19, she passed away on November 6, 2020 at the age of 84.
She had a close relationship with her siblings and later was a special aunt to her nieces and nephews. She attended school at South Diamond School about 1 mile from the family home. Mary Ann was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite by Minister Frank Unruh on December 19, 1948. The baptismal prayer included the thought of, "taking care of the sick". A few years later in life she found this prayer was fulfilled. She worked for 41 years at Mercy Hospital, Moundridge; caring for many people through the years. During this time she formed lasting friendships with her co-workers. She and Gladys Unruh, a fellow employee, had a residence together for many years.
Mary Ann enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Her nieces and nephews have many memories of times spent together during these family outings. One highlight was a tour of the Holy lands and Western Europe with a tour group of 59 people in 1974.
On December 16, 2001 Mary Ann was joined in marriage to our father, John Nightingale, by Minister Glen Nightingale. With this union she became a Minister's wife, mother and grandmother. Mary Ann filled a special place in Dad's life. They made their home at Dalhart, Texas and enjoyed the congregation there. Many memories were made during the time they lived in Texas. In February of 2012 Dad and Mom moved into an apartment at Bethel Home. They continued to enjoy a relatively full life until Mom moved into full care at Bethel Home in April of 2015. She appreciated being lovingly cared for by dedicated employees. Dad continued to live in his apartment. Because of the recent months of pandemic, Dad and Mom were not able to spend much time together. A few weeks before her passing they were privileged to visit again. Mom expressed an open way with the Lord and felt she was ready to go. We look forward to meeting her in heaven.
Those left to cherish memories are her husband, John of Montezuma; children, Evelyn and Verle Koehn of Princeton, Idaho, David and Judy Nightingale of New Plymouth, Idaho, Carol Nightingale and Grace Nightingale both of Montezuma; four grandchildren, Niki and Mitchell Toews of Glenn, California, Ande and Verle Boese of Princeton, Idaho, Charla and Isaac Kresek, presently serving in Kenya; and Mahlon and Julia Nightingale of Fruitland, Idaho; nine great grandchildren; one brother , Weldon and Delores Koehn of Leland, Mississippi; brothers-in-law : Frank and Arvilla Nightingale of Moundridge, and Vernon Nightingale of Fairview, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law, Sadie Nightingale of Montezuma and Carolyn Nightingale of Leland, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and two sisters.
We as the family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the Bethel Home Staff for their loving care for Mom through the years and especially during her passing.
