Dodge City – Mary S. Ontiberos, 94, died August 13, 2017 in Dodge City. She was born on January 14, 1923 in Abilene, Kansas.
Mary and her family moved to Dodge City, Kansas and she was raised in the Mexican Village. On September 3, 1941, she married Jess G. Ontiberos Sr. Mary gave birth to 15 children and was a homemaker for the majority of her life. She loved cooking and being surrounded by family. Mary was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend.
By the end of her life, Mary was survived by five generations including her sons: Frank and wife Sandy, George and wife Madeline, Bobby, Fred, Johnny, and Adam and wife Misty Ontiberos; daughters Lucy and husband Charles Briseno, and Rose Mary and husband Manuel Maestas; sister Rosie Rodriquez; 27 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and 17 great great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Jess G. Ontiberos Sr.; her sons Jesse Jr., Tony, Lupe, and Joey; her daughter Christina; brothers Tony Sanchez Sr., and Valentine Sanchez; and sisters Sarah Andrews and Jenny Ramos. Mary was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Funeral service will be held at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Wesley Schawe presiding. Burial will follow at Greencrest Cemetery in Dodge City. Vigil service will be held at Cathedral of our Lady of Guadalupe on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 7:00 PM. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 12:00 to 5:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe or Good Samaritan Society in care of the funeral home.
