Obituary

Ford - Mary Jane Randel, 85, passed away on October 13, 2024 in Wichita. She was born on May 6, 1939 at home during a storm in Edwards County, the daughter of Alva Ernest and Dorothea (Bitner) Randel.

When Jane started school in her small class at Greensburg there were five Mary Janes. At that time she started going by Jane. She went by Jane or Janie from then on. She had various jobs throughout her lifetime including being a homemaker, dispatcher at the Sherriff's office, Avon salesperson, secretary for Ford schools, school bus driver, supervisor for SRS, Hutchinson News Circulation director for Southwest Kansas, March of Dimes director for Southwest Kansas, she was also a co-owner, secretary, and occasional driver for Diesselhorst Truck Line, and later worked in used car sales at Quality Auto.

Jane was a longtime member of the Ford Community Church. She was also involved in various community programs including being a Girl Scout Leader. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and coloring with them. She also enjoyed crafting and sewing and messing with cars. She loved antiques and selling stuff on the internet. She was a wonderful cook and loved to travel. She also enjoyed spending time on the farm she grew up on and helping her parents with farm work.

She is survived by a daughter, Deana (Brooks) Moore and husband Paul; a son, Gearld Randel Brooks and wife Kelly; grandchildren, Elijah Moore and wife Rana, Emily (Moore) Hoang and husband Van, Susie (Brooks) Antosh and husband Peter, Aaron Brooks, and Ryan Brooks; great-grandchildren, Rowan Cline-Moore, Easton, Emmitt, and Ella Vi Hoang, Brittney-Kay Antosh Minor and husband Ty, Brynleigh Antosh, Amira and Harlow Brooks; great great-grandchildren, Alias and Jaxton Garcia and Calliope Antosh. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dearld Duane Brooks; and a companion, Mike Urban.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Allen Smith presiding.  Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Greensburg. Viewing will be noon to 1PM on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 right before the service.  Memorials are suggested to the Ford Community Church in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
