Spearville - Mary Ann Schmidt, 82, died December 1, 2018 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. She was born on February 23, 1936 in Dodge City, the daughter of Paul F. and Veronica (Meyeres) Mages.
Mary Ann spent her childhood on the family farm south of Spearville. She attended elementary school in Spearville and went to high school at Windthorst, graduating in 1954. After her high school graduation, Mary Ann went on to nursing school in Great Bend where she graduated in 1957. Upon completing her nursing education, she returned to Dodge City. Mary Ann worked as a nurse at Dodge City Medical Center from 1957-1960. On May 5, 1960, she married John Schmidt at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Dodge City. He survives. Mary Ann stayed at home to raise their children. She was also a farm wife. Mary Ann enjoyed gardening, flowers, and embroidery.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Spearville.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, John of Spearville; two daughters, Anna Marie Engler and husband Kyle of Rogers, Arkansas and Jane Douglas and husband Mark of Harper; a son, Kent Schmidt and wife Anita of Spearville; nine grandchildren, Robbie Engler, Nicole Ivie and husband Jared, Erin Ross, Heather Ross, Raigen Douglas, Derek Douglas, Lesley Schmidt, James Schmidt, and Craig Schmidt and wife Shelby; and five great grandchildren, Jackson, Kennady, and Mackenzie Ivie, Kaedyn Sloan, and Harmony Schmidt. She is preceded in death by her parents and a son, Marvin John Schmidt.
Vigil Service will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Spearville on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 7:00 PM. Funeral service will be held at the church on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 10:00 AM with Father John Forkouh presiding. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Spearville. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from noon to 5:00 PM.
