Spearville - Mary Norma Schulte, 92, died November 3, 2018 at the Hodgeman County Health Center in Jetmore. She was born on December 4, 1925, Kingman, the daughter of Leonard and Mary Ethel (Moorhouse) Hess.
On February 10, 1944, Mary Norma was united in marriage to Henry Schulte. The couple made their home in Spearville where they farmed ground northwest of town. Mary Norma stayed home to care for her children. Later, after the kids were grown, she worked at Bealls department store and Cejda drug store. Mary Norma and Henry also owned and operated the Schulte Drive In during the early 1960's in Spearville. She also often watched her grandkids. Mary Norma liked to sew, making numerous quilts and ribbon pillows. She also loved to dance.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Spearville.
Mary Norma is survived by nine children, Dallas Schulte of Wright, Norma Jean Stein and husband Val of Baldwin City, Ethel Schlereth and husband Henry of Spearville, Merle Schulte and wife Roberta of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Albert Schulte and wife, Joyce of Milford, Arlene Stude and husband Jerry of Dodge City, Darlene Rucker of Spearville, George Schulte and wife Charlie of Spearville, and Charlene Halling and husband Alan of Spearville; 26 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry; an infant son, Ronald Schulte; brothers, Howard, Harold, Lonnie, and Dallas Hess; an infant sister, Welcome Hess; an infant great-granddaughter, Ashton Howe; and a daughter-in-law, Peggy Schulte.
Vigil Service will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Spearville on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 10:30 AM with Rev. John Forkouh presiding. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Spearville. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from noon to 5:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
