DODGE CITY - Mary Katherine (Thornburg) Switzer, 79, passed away January 24, 2016 after a long illness. She was born on February 19, 1936 at Wynona, Oklahoma the daughter of Samuel D. and Mary L. (Arnce) Thornburg.

On November 26, 1958 she married Robert "Bob" Switzer at Liberal. He preceded her in death on December 2, 1992. After their marriage they lived all around the United States before settling in Dodge City. She retired from Walmart after over 20 years of service in 2010. She lived in Branson, Missouri and then moved to Baytown, Texas.

Mary was a long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW in Dodge City.

She is survived by her son, Eddy Switzer and his wife Lora; two daughters, Rebecca Ruth Switzer and Mary Anne Switzer; grandchildren, Chase Medford of Austin, Texas, Ashley L. Switzer of Wichita, Janessa T. Switzer of Wichita, Janice M. Switzer of Fowler, and Coby B. Brown of Trinidad, Colorado; and great grandchildren, Arianna Escobar and Presley Switzer and one brother, Herb Thornburg of Porterville, California.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Ella Mae Thornburg Potter, Marion Thornburg, Sam (Muggins) Thornburg, Cecil Thornburg, Robert Thornburg, and Bill Thornburg; and her son Robert C. Switzer Jr.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Jerre Nolte presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, January 29, 2016 from Noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Make a wish foundation in care of the funeral home.
