Dodge City - Mary Jo Tasset, 68, died October 24, 2018 at her home in Dodge City surrounded by family. She was born on April 16, 1950, the daughter of Edward & Marion (Mallow) Schinstock.
Mary Jo was born in Dodge City and raised on the family farm in Ford County. She attended school in Ford. On May 1, 1971 she married Duane Tasset at St. John Church in Spearville. Mary Jo worked at the family accounting office and other local offices for many years , but her most important job was as homemaker and caring for her family. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy and she spent much time attending their activities and rarely missed any of them.
She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Bas Bleu and Chapter CF of PEO, and held leadership positions for each.
Mary Jo is survived by her husband of 47 years, three daughters, Jodi (Kevin) Lix of Dodge City, Jill Howe of Wichita, and Julie (Heith) Konecny of Dodge City; 9 grandchildren, Hayleigh, Hannah, Jordan, Logan, Jessica, Brekkyn, Baylee, Kayla and Maya; four sisters, Toni Ann (Gerald) Trebilcock of Arvada, CO, Vicki (Dick) Brownrigg of Creede, CO, Denise (Steve) Riegel and Peggy Taylor both of Dodge City. Three brothers, John (Brenda) Schinstock of Yates Center, Jack Schinstock of Lincoln, NE, and Kenny (Karla) Schinstock of Dodge City, and many nieces and nephews to whom she was like a second mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Michael Howe, granddaughter Cassidy Jo Lix, brother Bruce Schinstock, sister-in-law Jan Schinstock, and nephew Butch Riegel.
Vigil service will be held at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City on Friday, October 26 at 7:00pm. Funeral mass will be held at the Cathedral on Saturday, October 27 at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Friday from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Cathedral School Endowment or St. Jude Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home.
