Great Bend - Maurice Lee Smith, 90, died February 13, 2022 at the University of Kansas Great Bend Campus. He was born on January 10, 1932 in Goultry, Oklahoma, the son of Barney and Hulda (Buller) Smith.

Maurice was the only child of Barney and Hulda. He spent his early childhood years in Goultry, Oklahoma before moving with his parents to Sublette, where he completed his education at the country school near their farm. On January 1, 1960, he married Norma Maddy.

The couple moved from Garden City to Colorado, California, and Oregon before returning to Kansas in 1974. Maurice worked as a glazier in several different glass companies. The family settled in Pierceville and Maurice worked for an auto parts store until his retirement. After his retirement, Maurice operated an antique store. He enjoyed working on, restoring, and collecting old cars. His favorite car was a Packard. Maurice and Norma moved to Great Bend to be near their son.

Maurice is survived by three sons, Luther R. Smith and fiancée Laura Thomason of Lakin, Richard A. Smith and wife Marla of Pierceville, and Donald W. Smith and wife Pam of Olmitz; seven grandchildren, Rosalie Spencer of Alabama, Amanda Smith of Holcomb, Holly Rohling and husband Ryan of Hutchinson, Ryan Henneberg and wife Brenda of Wichita, Dustin Smith and wife Amanda of Russell, Tyler Smith and wife Urlene of Aurora, Colorado, and Heather Montoya and husband Angel of Great Bend; 20 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Darrell and James Smith; and a great-great grandson, Gabriel Cedillo.

Funeral service will be held at Salem Mennonite Church. Copeland on Friday. February 18, 2022 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Salem Mennonite Cemetery. There is no public visitation.
