Obituary

Max D. Olson, 83, died January 11, 2009 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. He was born on October 10, 1925 at Belpre the son of Everett W. and Clytie L. (Wilhite) Olson.

He moved with his family to Ft. Dodge at an early age where he was an honorary member of the V.F.W. post 1520 where he bugled for many military funerals. Max was a graduate of Dodge City Senior High School. He served in the US Navy during WWII in the pacific theater. Mr. Olson married Betty Pearl McKinney in April of 1950. He worked for Pepsi Cola, Bell Telephone and the State Department of Transportation for 38 years retiring in 1986. Mr. Olson was currently a resident of the Kansas Soldiers Home at Ft. Dodge.

He was a member of First Missionary Church of Dodge City and was a life member of Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W. of Dodge City.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Ingraham and husband Marc of Scotts, Michigan; grandson, Mark Fletcher and wife Katina of Dodge City and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Kirk Larson presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with military rites by Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W.. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 from Noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials can be made to Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W. in care of the funeral home.
