DODGE CITY - Melvin Dean Tuxhorn, 81, died February 9, 2014 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita . He was born on August 5, 1932 at Montezuma, the son of Clarence and Leeva (Unruh) Tuxhorn.
Melvin was raised in Monezuma and graduated from Montezuma High School. On February 9, 1953 he married Nadine McDonald at Montezuma. They shared 61 years together. He worked for the Montezuma COOP and was a custodian at the Montezuma School District. Mr. Tuxhorn then went to work for United Telephone where he worked for 37 years until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in Colorado.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dodge City.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Nadine Tuxhorn of Dodge City; one son, Randle Tuxhorn and wife Susan of Dodge City; two daughters, Peggy Tuxhorn of Hutchinson and Dianna Bustraan and husband Neil of Leavenworth; two brothers, Dale Tuxhorn of Montezuma and Raymond Tuxhorn and wife Blanche of Wichita; one sister, Daylene Meier of Hutchinson; eight grandchildren, Matthew Tuxhorn and wife Kayla, Carly Chilton and husband Chris, Gabriel Tuxhorn, Cameron Tuxhorn, Mindy Tuxhorn, Nicole Veatch and husband Kyger, Megan Willmeth and husband Justin, and Rebecca Bustraan; and one great granddaughter, Brielle Tuxhorn. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Dodge City on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Lance Carrithers presiding. Burial will be at 1:30 PM on Thursday at Fairview Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 from Noon to 8:00 P.M..
