Merton H. Veeder
Dodge City - Merton H. Veeder, 87, passed December 12, 2017 at his hometown of Dodge City, Kansas. He was born on November 30, 1930 at Fowler, Kansas, the son of Merlon and Anna (Salmon) Veeder.
Upon graduating from Fowler High School, Merton joined the Navy in 1951, serving 4 years on the USS Boxer during the Korean War. He was Honorably Discharged in 1955. Merton married Rozanne Luetters in 1957. Taking up residence in Dodge City, they were both employed by the local Power Company. In 1995, Merton retired after 40 years.
Merton and Rozanne enjoyed several years of square dancing often hosting them in their garage.
Merton was a perfectionist; enjoying wood working and gardening. He also loved the outdoors; enjoying hunting and fishing, even tying his own flies.
Merton was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He also served as a Scout Master of Troop 162 receiving the Saint George Award.
Survivors include his wife Rozanne; three sons, Miles, Merlon, and Mace and his wife Allison; two daughters, Nadine and Deanna and her husband Sean; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother Joseph; and one sister Orilla Ann.
Funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dodge City on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Private family inurnment will be at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Ft. Dodge at a later date. A Rosary will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 9:15 AM. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the Sacred Heart Endowment Fund in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
