Obituary

Bucklin – Michael Lynn Barnett, 61, died October 14, 2021 in Kansas City, Kansas.  He was born on November 18, 1959 at Dodge City, Kansas the son of Ivan Paul and Florence (Nolder) Barnett.

He was the youngest of 14 children. He was a loving son, brother, husband and father. He was married to Mary Elizabeth Elson from August 15, 1981 to October 3, 1985. They had two children during their marriage, a son Dennis Michael Barnett and a daughter Amber Lee Ann Barnett (Adkins).

He worked for the State Department of Transportation in Dighton, Kansas until early 1985. He drove a semi truck for a private company in Great Bend until October 1985. He met his wife Roxsanna Lona William at at a V.F.W. singles dance in August 1987. They were married on August 12, 1988. Roxsanna had a son Joshua Wayne William whom he raised as his own son. Michael and Roxsanna had one child together, a son Levi  Barnett. They lived in Dodge City from 1987 to 2000, moving to Ford and living there from 2000 to 2004. Then they moved to Bucklin in 2004 and still reside there today. Mr. Barnett worked for Dodge City Sanitation, Cliff Dilley Grain, F&E Wholesale Foods and Ben E, Keith Foods before retiring from truck driving to become a caregiver in 2010.

In 2010 he became a full time caregiver for his son Joshua after his first stroke. He loved taking care of Joshua as much as truck driving.  He gained the title of Grandpa in 2010. He loved playing and talking to his grandchildren. He always treasured those moments with them and loved it dearly. He was onery and loved to play and tell jokes to his family and friends. He always loved spending time with his family and permanently retired in 2019.

He loved being a truck driver, taking his children for a ride in his truck. He loved watching Nascar races. Mr. Barnett loved to go dancing and socializing with his friends. He enjoyed going fishing, putting together model kits as well as collecting hot wheels and nascar toys in his spare time.

He is survived by his wife Roxsanna; three sons Dennis Barnett; Levi Barnett; Joshua Barnett; one daughter Amber Adkins and husband Brian; two grandchildren Jakobe Adkins and Zander Adkins as well as eight siblings: Dave Barnett; Margaret Coker; Dennis Barnett; Randy Barnett; Anne Orr; Sue Torson; Pat Barnett and Steve Barnett. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents Ivan and Florence Barnett; five brothers Richard, Les, Jerry, Jim, Jack and one nephew Vernon Barnett and one niece Michelle McKinnon.

Funeral service will be held at Spearville Federated Church on Friday October 22, 2021 at 3:00 PM with Scott Tilley presiding.  Burial will follow at Silent Land Cemetery in Spearville. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Thursday, October 21, 2021from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Michael Barnett Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
