MICHAEL A. "JUNIOR" HORNUNG

Offerle - Michael A. "Junior" Hornung, 66, died February 26, 2013 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. He was born on July 20, 1946 at Dodge City, the son of Michael Christian and Rosa Antoinetta (Heiland) Hornung.

Junior attended Spearville Schools and was a 1964 graduate of Spearville High School. He was a farmer and stockman in the Spearville area and also was a custom harvester. Michael owned and operated a machine shop in Offerle. He did design and engineer work for Crustbuster/SpeedKing in Spearville and Dodge City. Junior enjoyed playing cards.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus St. Leonard Council #1539, both of Spearville.

Michael is survived by three brothers, Don Hornung and wife Christy of Dodge City, Richard Hornung of Mead, Colorado and Ron Hornung and wife Janice of Spearville; a sister Phyllis Stephenson of Dodge City; brother-in-law, Tom Keeley of Dodge City; sister-in-law, Irene Hornung of Berthoud, Colorado; several nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Alethea Keeley and Karin Helena Hornung.

Vigil Service will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at the church on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Ted Stoecklein presiding. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Spearville. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, March 1, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or Windthorst Heritage Foundation both in care of the funeral home.
