Dodge City - Michael George "Big "O" Ontiberos, 77, died August 19, 2024 at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born on August 7, 1947 at San Bernardino, California the son of George and Esther "Stella" (Gonzalez) Ontiberos.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, drawing, driving his truck and listening to the oldies in his spare time. Mr. Ontiberos was a huge KU Basketball fan. He also enjoyed playing baseball and softball and was once on a softball team made up of all Ontiberos family members. He was very proud to be called an "Eastsider" and a member of the "Fabulous 5" from Dodge City. He was also very proud of his heritage and of having the last name of Ontiberos. Mr. Ontiberos had a great sense of humor and was a very charming person. He cherished spending time with his family. He lived in Dodge City most of his life except for the 20 years that he lived in Ashland. Kansas before moving back to Dodge City.
He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Knights of Columbus all of Dodge City.
He is survived by one son Michael Ontiberos Jr. and wife Linda of Dodge City; four daughters Denise Martinez and husband Efren of Dodge City; Tina Aguilar and husband Raul of Red Oak, Texas; Rene Yescas of Dallas, Texas; Elizabeth Urbina and husband Arturo of Dallas, Texas as well as fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers Charlie Onitberos of Dodge City; Tom Ontiberos of Kansas City, Kansas and two sisters Becky Kingle and Mona Steill both of Dodge City, Kansas and his beloved dog Buffy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Alfredo Ontiberos.
Funeral Mass will be held at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Wesley Schawe presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 26, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Vigil Service will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 7:00 PM at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
