Ensign – Gordon Michael "Mike" Coate, 76, died January 7, 2018 at Hays Medical Center in Hays.  He was born on January 10, 1941 in Dodge City, the son of Richard and Velma Laverne Coate .

Mike graduated from Fowler High School in 1959.  On January 12, 1968, Mike married Joyce Brown-Young in Lancaster, Texas.  After their marriage, the couple moved back to southwest Kansas, living in several communities, working mostly as a farm employee, before returning to Ensign in 1988.  Mike worked at the COOP in Ensign before buying the family farm south of Ensign.  Mike was a hard working man.  When he wasn't working on the farm, he enjoyed boating, hunting, and working on antique cars.

Mike is survived by his wife Joyce of the home; two children, John Young and wife Mary of Red Oak, Texas and Karen Trujillo and husband Robert of Pueblo West, Colorado; one brother, Lonnie Coate and wife Pat of Bernice, Oklahoma; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Young of Naples, Florida; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Paul Young; a brother, Bruce Coate; and a sister, Penny Salem.

A celebration of Mike's life will be held at a later date.  There is no visitation as cremation as taken place.
