SUBLETTE - Mildred Leona Stapleton Loucks, 90, died June 27, 2012 at Satanta Long Term Care Unit in Satanta. She was born on June 28, 1921 in Haskell County, daughter of Robert Clee and Mildred Pearl (Thompson) Birney.
Mildred graduated from Sublette High School. After graduating, Mildred married John Dell Stapleton on September 30, 1939 in Garden City. He preceded her in death on May 17, 1970. On November 26, 1972, Mildred married David C. Loucks in Copeland. He survives. Mildred enjoyed working in the yard and on the farm. One of her favorite things was working the cow-calf operation. She also loved to cook for her family. Mildred will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was a member of the Sublette Methodist Church of Sublette. Mildred taught Sunday school and was very active in the church. She was also a member of the Atomera Club of Copeland and the Copeland Christian Church.
In addition to her husband, David, Mildred is survived by three sons; Dorsey Stapleton and wife Roma of Sublette, David Stapleton of Plains, and Danny Stapleton and wife Janice of Liberal; two daughters; Linda Watson and husband Jeff of Cimarron and Loretta Holland and husband Bill of Sublette; one daughter-in-law, Connie Stapleton of Noble, Oklahoma; one step-son, David Lee Loucks and wife Peggy of Copeland; one step-daughter, Sharol Jo Grant and husband Ernie of Yelm, Washington; 25 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 18 step great grandchildren; and five step great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John Stapleton; son, Delwin Stapleton; great grandson, Joe Don Puckett; two step grandchildren, Michael Loucks and Barbara Loucks; step great granddaughter, Britney Koehn; and siblings, Russell, Lee, Leoti, Loyd, and Orville Birney.
Funeral service will be held at Sublette Methodist Church on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. with Jay Stapleton presiding. Burial will follow at Haskell County Cemetery in Sublette. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Sublette on Friday, June 29, 2012 from noon to 8:00 P.M.. Memorials are suggested to Satanta Long Term Care Unit, Copeland Senior Center, or Sublette Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
