Obituary

Milton A. Koehn was born on February 14, 1936, to Edward B. and Josephine (Dutton) Koehn on the farm near Montezuma. He departed this life on June 26, 2026, at Bethel Home in Montezuma, reaching the age of 90 years.

Milton's growing up years were spent on the family farm. He and his identical twin brother, Wilton, developed an unbreakable bond that carried on throughout their life. He completed his education at the North Lone Star School near Montezuma.

While in service, he met our mother, Susan (Sue) Jeanne Richardson. On July 8, 1960, they were married in Seattle, Washington. They shared life's joys and sorrows for over 65 years. One daughter and four sons were born to this union. Our parents started their married life in Garden City, where dad worked for Peoples Natural Gas. They then moved to Meade and Dad was employed at Meade Manufacturing. During this time, the Lord called dad and mom to follow Him. They were baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on November 29, 1964 at Montezuma. Dad enjoyed his Christian life, and was faithful until his death.

In 1971, our parents moved to Dodge City. The family spent the next three years here while dad was employed at several manufacturing businesses. In 1974, our family moved to Montezuma. Dad was soon employed by Henry Schmidt, working on the farm. Dad enjoyed working the next 25 years with the Schmidt family. Dad and Mom moved to Dalhart, Texas in 1998. He worked the next couple of years for Ray Ogelsby; then was employed by his son-in-law for the next several years. In 2005, our parents moved to Rush, Colorado, where dad enjoyed mowing grass for Sunbelt Turf Farm. Dad was very much involved in the development of the Rush Colorado congregation, giving of his time and talents. Dad and mom moved again in 2008 to Montezuma, making a full circle.

Dad continued working until age 82, delivering parts for American Implement. Dad was a hard-working, honest, and conscientious man, providing well for his family, teaching us children, the value of hard work and never giving up.

His last six years were spent at Bethel Home, five years in an apartment, and the remainder in full care. Dad loved and prayed daily for his children and grandchildren, mentioning each one by name.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving companion, Sue; five children, Jeff and wife Michelle of Heath, Texas, Don and wife Lynne of Wichita, Tami and husband Tyson Giesbrecht of Gurley, Alabama, Lane and wife Sandy of Lenexa, and Kip and fiancé Lori of Wichita; Grandchildren, Taylor (Rachelle) Giesbrecht, Derrick (Lexi) Koehn, Tasha (Tylan) Thiessen, Jordan (Jace) Larson, Makenzie, Dillon, Alec, Lexas, Kasten, and Tripp; six great grandchildren; sister, Maxine (Max) Grenad, of LaJunta, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Edith Ensz, Darlene Wedel, Janet Koehn, and Pat Koehn, all of Montezuma, Cecile (Danny) Chambers of Liberty Center, Ohio. Preceding him in death are his parents, Ed and Josephine; brothers, Bernard, Gilbert, Myron, Wilton, Clayton, and Leonard; sisters, Alfreda, and Veneta; and parents in law, Robert and Jean Richardson.

Funeral service will be held at Montezuma Mennonite Church on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30,2026 at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma from noon to 3:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home in care of the funeral home.
