DODGE CITY - Myron Everett Wheaton, 80, died Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Alterra Sterling House of Dodge City. He was born on April 6, 1930 at Lewis, Kansas the son of Marion O. and Eva (Showers) Wheaton. Myron graduated from Scott City High School in 1948. On January 11, 1949 he married Anna Lou Owen in Scott City. She preceded him in death on October 25, 2009. After their marriage, they moved to Hoisington and later moved to Dodge City in 1965. Myron was the circulation manager for the Dodge City Daily Globe for many years and later worked for Jack Fraley Realty Company and then for Gibson's Discount Center. He enjoyed flying his plane, car racing and playing tennis.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Dodge City and the Masonic Lodge of Hoisington.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Ramsour and husband Don of Dodge City, and Pamela Preston and husband Steve of Charlotte, North Carolina; a sonTim Wheaton of Dodge City; a brother, Wilbur Wheaton and wife Ellen of Sedona, Arizona; two sisters, Evelyn Price and husband Bob of Boulder, Colorado and Donnis Hoekstra and husband Alan of Atlanta, Georia; 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister Wilda Jean Wheaton and a brother Edgar Wheaton.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City with Rev. Lance Carrithers presiding. There will be no visitation as Mr. Wheaton requested his body donated to KU Medical Center for research. Memorials can be made to Relay For Life of Dodge City in care of the funeral home.
